In response to the severe heatwave gripping the region, the Punjab Government has announced an early start to summer vacations for schools and colleges. This decision, driven by the extreme temperatures affecting Lahore, Gujranwala, Sargodha, and other districts, aims to ensure the safety and well-being of students and educational staff.
The summer vacations were initially scheduled from 1st June 2024 to 14th August 2024. However, given the current weather conditions, the Education Minister, Mr. Sikandar Hayyat, has confirmed that all educational institutions in Punjab will now remain closed from 25th May 2024.
Today’s maximum temperature in Lahore has reached a scorching 44°C, with forecasts predicting a further rise in the coming days. Meteorologists warn that by the end of the month, temperatures could soar to a blistering 47°C, exacerbating the risk of heat-related illnesses and highlighting the urgency of this decision.

“The health and safety of our students and staff are our top priorities,” said Mr. Hayyat. “The extreme temperatures pose significant health risks, and this adjustment is necessary to protect everyone involved.”

Many parents have expressed their gratitude towards the government for taking prompt action. “I’m glad the government is taking this seriously.
