Islamabad, January 31, 2024 — In a shocking turn of events just seven days before the upcoming general election, former Prime Minister Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, have been sentenced to 14 years in jail by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) court in the Toshakhana case. Additionally, they have been fined a staggering 787 million rupees.

The verdict, delivered today, comes in the wake of another sentencing yesterday, where Imran Khan and his close associate, Shah Mahmood Qureshi, were sentenced to 10 years in the cipher case.

The Toshakhana case revolves around alleged misappropriation of gifts received by the former Prime Minister. The NAB court found Imran Khan and his wife guilty of corruption and misuse of authority, leading to the severe 14-year sentence.

These legal setbacks for Imran Khan come at a critical time, just a week before the general election scheduled for February 8, 2024. The convictions are expected to have significant implications on the political landscape, potentially influencing the electoral dynamics.

Political analysts speculate that these developments might sway public opinion and impact the electoral prospects of Imran Khan’s party. The timing of the verdicts raises questions about their potential influence on the election and adds an unexpected twist to an already intense political environment.

The legal team for both Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi is expected to appeal the verdicts.

As the nation awaits the outcome of these legal battles and the subsequent impact on the general election, the political landscape in Pakistan is experiencing unprecedented turbulence, making the days leading up to the polls highly unpredictable.
